Little Jasleen entered the world in, um, a very big way on July 26. At 13.4 pounds, this newborn is the largest baby to be born vaginally in Germany, reports the New York Post. Ouch.
When the baby's mother arrived at the University of Leipzig, she was found to have undiagnosed gestational diabetes, which contributed to her baby's size. Babies like Jasleen, who are born weighing more than 8 pounds, 13 ounces, are said to have felta macrosomia, a condition usually caused by the mother's diabetes or obesity. Mom delivered her without a C-section, and while Jasleen remains in the NICU, she and her mom are doing well. Congrats to the family--though we hope she kept the gift receipts for the baby clothes. There's no way Jasleen's fitting into any newborn clothing.
